Inflation at 1.9% in June

Overall consumer prices rose 1.9% in June year-on-year, slightly down from the 2% increase in May, the Census & Statistics Department announced today.

Netting out the effects of the Government's one-off relief measures, the underlying inflation rate was 1.7%, also slightly lower than May’s 1.8%.

Compared with June last year, price increases were seen across the following categories: alcoholic drinks and tobacco; electricity, gas and water; clothing and footwear; meals out and takeaway food; basic food; miscellaneous services; miscellaneous goods; transport; and housing. By contrast, a year-on-year decrease in prices for durable goods was recorded.
